Butte Miners set to host ‘Jack Whelan Day’

The Butte Miners will celebrate “Jack Whelan Day” Wednesday, July 7 when they take on the Helena Reps in a Southern A doubleheader at 3 Legends Stadium.

Fans are invited to a pregame barbecue that starts at 4:30 p.m. Then there will be no admission charged to watch the Miners take on the Reps.

Whelan, of course, is one of the “legends” of 3 Legends Stadium. His hard work, dedication and financial support helped keep the Butte American Legion baseball program alive for decades.

Whelan passed away at the age of 90 in November.

The Miners will at the Keith Sell Tournament beginning Friday in Helena. The Miners open at 2 p.m. against the Glacier Twins. They then take on Yakima at 5.
