Butte Miners salvage spilt with Bozeman Bucks

Playing with their season on the line, the Butte Miners salvaged a doubleheader split with the Bozeman Bucks Sunday afternoon at Copper Mountain Park.

After falling 10-5 in the opener, the Miners battled back for an 8-7 walk-off victory in the second game.

One batter after Dylan McDonald singled in Ax Henningsen with the tying run, Zach Hart hit a shot to third base. Hart reached on an error and Renzy Doherty easily scored from third base for the win.

The Miners are off until Saturday when they welcome the Kalispell Lakers for a key doubleheader at Copper Mountain. Butte closes out the regular season next Sunday with one game against the Bucks.

Butte is playing for a spot in the Eastern AA State tournament, which starts July 29 in Helena.

Bozeman Bucks 10, Butte Miners 5
No. 9 hitter Robert Samson pulled a two-run, two-out triple down the first base line to break a 4-all tie in the top of the sixth inning.

Samson then scored on a wild pitch as the Bucks took the lead for good with the three-run inning.

The big hit came just after the Miners rallied to tie the game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Kilian O’Leary belted a two-run double that tied the game one batter after Ryan Moodry roped an RBI single.

O’Leary went 3 for 3 with a run scored on the day. Trey Hoagland went 2 for 2 with a run and an RBI, while Marcus Madrazo joined Moodry with one hit.

The Miners, though, left seven runners on base.

Leadoff hitter Bailey Paddock went 3 for 5 to lead Bozeman. Adam Hubley and Austin Frandsen joined Samson with two hits as the Bucks got six hits and six RBIs from the bottom three batters in the lineup.

Paddock picked up the win with two outs in relief. Jared Haran pitched six innings and took the loss.

Butte Miners 8, Bozeman Bucks 7

The Bucks jumped out to a 5-0 lead with three in the first and two in the second inning of the second game.

Butte got a run back when Madrazo knocked in Haran in the second. Nate LePrwose hit a two-run single to highlight Butte’s three-run third.

Madrazo added an RBI double in the fifth. He then scored to tie the game at 6 on a single by Henningsen.

Bozeman took a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning when Benntt Hostetler scored when D.J. Perdeams reached on a fielder’s choice.

Butte’s rally started with two out. Henningsen singled, and Doherty walked. That was followe by McDonald’s hit and the error.

LeProwse hit a double and a single in the win, while Henningsen hit two singles. O’Leary also hit a single.

Trey Hoagland pitched the distance, striking out four and walking three to pick up the win.
