Butte High Swimming results, Montana Classic

The Butte High girls took 6th and the Boys took 8th at the Butte High School Montana Classic swim meet at the YMCA pool.  There were 12 girls’ teams and 10 boys’ teams totaling about 190 swimmers.

The girls were led by Sophomore, Olivia Thurmond, who took 5th in the 50 free and 3rd in the 500 free.  Freshman, Alaina Grochowski, captured 9th in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free.

Senior, Lily Jaksha, took a 9th place in the 100 fly and 10th in the 500 free. Sophomore, Tatum Trefts took over a second off her 100 breaststroke to capture 4th.  While just missing the top 10, freshman Nimalka DeAlwis took 3 seconds off her 200 IM and placed 11th.

“All of the girls swam really great.  We had a lot of personal best times, and are getting stronger and faster at each meet.” Said Bulldog coach Lynn Shrader.

The girls 200 Medley Relay of Olivia Thurmond, Tatum Trefts, Alaina Grochowski, and Lily Jaksha had another best time and took 5th. Swimming the 400 Free Relay for the first time this season; Lily Jaksha, Nimalka DeAlwis, Alaina Grochowski, and Olivia Thurmond took 5th.

“Taking 8th was a great accomplishment, as there was only 5 boys swimming.”

The boys were led by Sophomore Nathan Stone, and Junior, Ziah Garza.  Nathan captured 9th in the 200 free and 6th in the 100 free.  Both races were personal best times.  Ziah took 9th in the 500 free with a best time by over 40 seconds.  He also took 7th in the 50 free.  Freshman, Gage Plum took 10th in the 500 free and 9th in the 100 back.  Both the 200 Medley and the 400 free relays of Ziah Garza, Gage Plum, Nathan Stone and Blair Hamry took 7th.

Butte Highs next meet is January, 13th in Great Falls.
