Butte High sits in fourth at Rocky Mountain Classic

MISSOULA — With Keagan Gransbery and Kameron Moreno leading the way, Butte High’s wrestling team sits in fourth place after the first day of the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic.

Gransbery and Moreno each reached the semifinals of their respective division. In all, 11 Bulldogs are still alive in tournament. They helped the Bulldogs score 92 team points so far.

Great Falls High leads the way with 112 points. Kalispell Flathead is second at 109.5, followed by Mead, Washington at 99.5. Powell, Wyoming is fifth at 87.

The tournament saw 30 teams score points in the first day.

Gransbery reached the semis at 120 pounds, picking up a pair of wins after a first-round bye. He will take on Jake Mark of Mead in Saturday’s semifinals.

Moreno will wrestle in the semifinals at 205 pounds. He also won two matches after a first-round bye. Next up is a battle Zane McCormick of Helena Capital.

Kobe Moreno (heavyweight), Myles McClernan (182 pounds) and Scout Allen (138) all reached the semifinals before being knocked to the consolation bracket, were they are still fighting.

Also still going on the consolation side are Trey Whitlock (103), Gavin Vetter (126), Connor Konda (132), Anthony Liva (145), Dylan Averyt (152) and Dominick Scown (170).
