Butte High mat men fourth at Class AA Duals

GREAT FALLS — Butte High placed fourth at the Class AA Duals Saturday.

The Bulldogs went 3-2 in duals on the day. After beating Kalispell Glacier 48-24 in the first round, Butte fell 44-27 to Kalispell Flathead.

The Bulldogs beat Billings Skyview 42-24 before knocking off Missoula Big Sky 37-28 in the consolation semifinals.

Billings Senior topped the Bulldogs 46-18 in the third place match.

Bozeman won the tournament, topping Great Falls High in the title dual.

Flathead placed fifth, followed by Missoula Big Sky, Billings West and Billings Skyview.

“Thing went pretty well,” Butte High coach Cory Johnston said. “We used some of the duals as an opportunity to get more varsity mat time for our No. 2 guys.”

Johnson said the dual results came down to match ups

“Just like in all dual situations, we match up better with some teams than others,” the coach said. “We are happy with a fourth place finish, but not satisfied.”

Butte High will host Dillon in a non-conference dual Thursday.

Bulldog results from the AA Duals are not available.
