Butte High JV falls to Combo tourney varsities

Three varsity teams from Class AA defeated Class AA Butte High’s junior varsity during play over the weekend in the annual LaVerne Combo Invitational high school girls’ softball tournament at Stodden Park.
Class A Butte Central is the host of the tournament.
The Butte High jayvees lost by 15-0 to Stevensville, 10-6 to Columbia Falls and 8-4 to Ronan.
Sophie Berning and Jaden Fisher combined on a one-hitter for Stevensville. The hit Butte hit was a single by Mattie Stepan. The game ended in four innings on the run rule.
Berning knocked in three runs with a double and single, and Fisher
tripled and singled, driving in two runs.
Columbia Falls’ 4-0 start proved to be too much for the Butte team to overcome in their game. Ally Godbout singled twice and knocked in a Butte run. Other RBIs came from Stepan and Allie Becker with singles. Reese Johnson thumped a double.
Haden Peters, Kyrah Trenkle, Aspen Dawson and Sydney Mann were the Columbia Falls hit leaders. Peters slugged a home run.
Ronan got out on the Butte JV 7-0 and weathered the comeback. Hailey Skeel led Butte High JV with two hits and an RBI. Avery Barsness also batted in a run, and Stepan and Gracie Jonart poked singles.
Alexis Luedtke and Tracee Burland hammered home runs for Ronan.
