Butte High girls show promise in losses

GREAT FALLS — The Butte High girls’ soccer team went 0-2 at the Great Falls Jamboree Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell 2-1 on a late goal to Kalispell Glacier before dropping a 2-0 decision to a strong Missoula Sentinel team.

“We got some positives,” Butte High coach Kevin Petritz said. “You don’t want to go 0-2, but we played well.

“We did make some mistakes, but they are things we can work on heading into the conference season.”

Hailey Jaksha scored Butte’s lone goal, burying the ball in the net off an assist from Bailey Luoma.

Butte High played most of the day without captain Allison Bennett, who suffered a hip pointer early in the first match. Petritz said he’s hopeful Bennett will be back when the Bulldogs play host to Great Falls High on Thursday.

“If not, I have confidence in some other girls to step in and play,” Petritz said.

The coach had lots of praise for senior goalkeeper Maria Michelotti.

“Oh my God, she was terrific,” he said.
