Butte High’s girls’ soccer team went toe-to-toe with some tough competition Saturday at the Jeremy Bullock Complex.
The Bulldogs, though, remained winless with a 2-0 loss to Billings Senior.
“That is a great team,” Butte High coach Kevin Petritz said of the Broncs. “We did some really great things today.”
Senior took the lead in the 30th minute when Maysee Whitney scored off an assist from Paige Hatzenbihler.
That’s where the score stayed unitl Hatzenbihler scored from a Baily Woodring assist in the 76th minute of the 80-minute game.
That goal came as the Bulldogs went on the offensive in an last-ditch effort to tie the game.
“I tried to put numbers through,” Petritz said. “I tried to get something going.”
Petritz said he was pleased with the way his team played. He said putting senior Mijah McLeod up top was a key to Butte High’s solid performance.
“Mijah played really well up top,” the coach said. “She adds a lot to the dynamic of the team.
“Jessica Rosa and Camile McEwen played great in the middle.”
The coach also praised his back-row players for bouncing back big time from Tuesday’s loss to Bozeman. Petritz pointed to the play of Ally Cleverly, Sophie Guillory, Jori Shole and goal keeper Allison Collins.
“They’re good players,” Petritz said. “I knew they would bounce back.”
The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday when they play host to Billings West.
