Butte High girls denied in Bozeman

BOZEMAN — For the first time since 2005, the Class AA State girls’ basketball tournament will not include the Butte High Bulldogs.

Bozeman knocked off Butte High 58-43 in an Eastern AA playoff game Thursday night as the Hawks punched their ticket to next week’s tournament in Billings.

Caitlin Lonergan scored 15 points to lead Bozeman (10-11), which missed state last year.

Senior Sammy McGree and the Bulldogs played to the final buzzer. McGree stole the ball late and hit a last-second shot. She ended the game with 22 points, 16 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Andie Hogan, Bethany McLean and Ellie Hoffenbacker each scored four points for Butte High, while Mariah Richardson and Maria Michelotti each scored three, McKaul Ori tossed in two and Kassidy Caprara scored one.

The Bulldogs close the season at 8-13.
