Butte High drops two at Great Falls, CMR

GREAT FALLS — Timing was just not on the side of the Butte High softball team Friday.

One day after the Bulldogs outslugged Missoula Big Sky for a pair of Western AA victories at Stodden Park, the Bulldogs headed to the Electric City to take on Great Falls High and Great Falls Russell in a pair of non-conference games.

Great Falls knocked off Butte High 17-8 before CMR topped the Bulldogs 12-1. Butte High did not have a travel partner for the day, meaning the Bison and Rustlers only played Butte High.

“We were just spent. We had no pitching left,” Bulldog coach Ryan Stosich said. “They gave it their all, but they were tired. I think Rian (Ferriter) pitched over 200 pitchers last night (Thursday).”

Butte High, which is 2-0 where it counts, fell to 2-5 overall on the season.

Stosich said his Bulldogs will regroup as they enter a busy stretch next week. Butte High heads to Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday before playing at Helena High on Friday. Kalispell Flathead comes to town for a twin bill next Saturday.

“We’ve just got to clean up the little things, and we’ll be fine,” Stosich said.

Emma Newmack and Morgan Sunchild homered to lead the Great Falls 12-hit attack. Alex Woehler, Tehneson Ehnes, Ashley Boland and Alex Bloomgren pitched in the win.

Great Falls also took advantage of four Butte High errors.

Madison Skeel and Bryn Godbout pitched for the Bulldogs. The action was the first at the varsity level for Godbout, a sophomore.

Duffey drove in three runs. Burke knocked in two and Ferriter drove in one.
