HELENA — Butte High’s boys’ basketball team’s comeback bid fell a little short tonight.
The Bulldogs outscored Helena High 28-15 in the fourth quarter. However, the Bengals held on for a 64-56 non-conference win to drop the Bulldogs to 1-1.
Butte High trailed by as many as 22 points before rallying to make things interesting. Four Butte High players scored in double figures with Peter Granger and Cory Farstveet leading the way with 12 points. Farstveet grabbed a team-leading five rebounds.
Dallas Cook added 11 points in the loss, while Brian Smith scored 10 points. Zach Bunney netted nine points.
Austin Young’s 16 points paced the Bengals, who opened the season. Chase Smith scored 10, while Garth Grimsrud scored eight and Henry Garrett added seven points and six rebounds.
The Bulldogs beat Belgrade Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs have a week off before playing Helena Capital next Thursday at the Richardson Gym. Their first conference game isn’t until January.
