Butte High, Belgrade JV split wild doubleheader

BELGRADE — Butte High’s softball team saw its season-opening seven-game winning streak snapped Wednesday.

Then, the Bulldogs started what they hope will be another one.

Butte High and Belgrade split a wild doubleheader. The Panthers walked off to win the opener 8-7. The Bulldogs returned the walk-off favor with a 10-9 win in the night cap.

The Bulldogs will head to Kalispell Friday and Saturday to take on Glacier and Flathead.

Game 1
Belgrade 8, Butte High 7
Sierra Tuss hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Panthers the victory.

The winning run came after Butte High rallied to tie the game at seven with two runs in the top of the inning.

Piper Bell roped two hits, and Ella Seaman pitched the distance, striking out nine, to get the win.

Madisyn Swanson hit a single and a double, while Taylor Drakos and Dacelyn Lafond each poked two singles to lead the Bulldogs. Brityn Stewart, Natalie Lynch, Cami Kautzman and Hailey Skeel also singled for Butte High.

Game 2
Butte High 10, Belgrade 9
It was Swanson’s turn to be the hero in the second game. The freshman smacked a two-run double to cap a three-run seventh inning as Butte High walked it off.

The Bulldogs were the home team in Game 2 of the double dip.

The game-winner was the second double of the game for Swanson, who went 3 for 5 with four RBIs from the No. 3 hole. Drakos and Stewart each added three hits and three RBIs in the win.

Gracie Ferriter, Kamber Leary and Lafond each added a double and single in the win. Madi Jonart, Lynch and Kautzman also singled for Butte.

Ashby Lee pitched the distance for the victory.

Ava Lund hit a double and two singles to lead Belgrade. Olivia Mills, Tara Osler and Brooklyn Ragland doubled.
