Butte girls’ soccer team takes second at State

GREAT FALLS — The Butte U16 Girls soccer team placed second at the Montana State Cup this past weekend.

The Butte girls finished the weekend with a record of 3-1 and a goal differential of 8-2.

The team played one of its best games of the season in a 4-2 win against Great Falls. It followed that with a 2-1 win over Laurel in the group stage on Saturday.

On Sunday the Butte girls woke up early to beat Helena 2-0 in the semi-finals. Butte’s title hopes fell just short with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Great Falls in the championship game.

Marti Ludwick scored five goals on the weekend to lead the Butte girls. Rylee Gonzales, Grace Luoma and Allyson Cleverly also scored goals.

Goalies Allison Collins and Payton Carver were the backstops of the team, making numerous saves throughout the weekend.

Other team members are Justise Birkenbuel, Lexia Dauenhauer, Haley Herron, Lexie Kautzman, Margaret LaFave, Elizabeth Lalicker, Aspen Lovshin, Camille  McEwen, Anna Revenaugh, Daley Schinell and Jori Sholey.
