BOZEMAN — The Kings are queens of the ice.
Butte’s Copper City Kings 14U girls’ hockey team captured the state B championship Sunday. The Kings knocked off Bozeman 3-1 to win the best-of-three championship series 2-1.
Layla Stinson scored two goals to lead Butte in the clinching victory. Chloe Jewell added one.
Butte opened the season with a dramatic 2-1 victory Friday at the Butte Community Ice Center. The teams went to double overtime, and Butte won in a best-of-five shootout. Karsyn Lambrecht scored the game-winning goal, and Kylie Jaksha shut out all five shots in Bozeman.
Bozeman edged Butte 1-0 Saturday in Butte, setting up Sunday’s all-or-nothing showdown.
Members of the state champion Copper City Kings are Stinson, Jewell, Lambrecht, Jaksha, Brooklyn Holmes, Genna Strozenski, Jayden Allen, Natalie Reilly, Isabelle Fraser, Reena Davisson, Carley Ryan, Layla Harned, Samantha Bogert, Alexis Strande, Addison Lambrecht Kaitrin McMillan and Elly McMillian.
