Butte girls ground Hawks, stop losing streaks

BOZEMAN — Butte High’s girls’ basketball team ended a pair of losing streaks Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs knocked off Bozeman 38-31 in an Eastern AA game to end a four-game skid. The victory was Butte High’s first since knocking off Butte Central 19 days ago.

The victory was Butte’s first over Bozeman in five years. The Bulldogs’ last win was a 64-57 decision which came Jan. 31, 2013 in Butte.

The Hawks won the next 10 meetings, including a playoff game in 2014.

Brittney Tierney hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-5 in the Eastern AA and 5-7 overall. Haley Herron scored all of her 11 points, while Aly Cleverly scored seven and Aspen Lovshin tossed in four.

Marti Ludwick, Makenna Carpenter, Kira Mortensen and Jaden Cleveland also contributed for the Bulldogs.

Addi Ekstrom’s 10 points led the Hawks, who fell to 2-4 an 4-8.

The Bulldogs will head to Billings Friday to take on Skyvew.
