KALISPELL — The Montana Youth Soccer Association State Cup has found a home in the Mining City.

The Butte Orange beat the Bozeman Blitz 5-0 in the championship game of the girls’ U16/U17 Silver Cup division on Sunday.

The title match came after Butte went 2-1 in games Friday and Saturday to tie with the Blitz on top of the standings with six points.

Butte opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over the Blitz on Friday. After falling 3-1 to Queen City Saturday morning, the Mining City girls bounced back to knock off Valley Elite 2-0 Saturday evening.

Justise Birkenbuel, Christiana Beierle, Lexie Kautzman and Jordyn LaPier all booted goals in the first half to give Butte a commanding lead in the title tilt. Birkenbuel added a goal in the second half.

“Our defense did a great job by stopping shots on the keeper, and getting first to the ball first,” Butte coach Shaila Roeber said. “Our midfield worked hard and hustled being there for the defense and forwards. They stopped a lot of plays in the center. The forwards did great at creating plays and taking shots on the Blitz goal. The girls really played well as a team they really supported each other, very proud of them.”

The team is made up of Birkenbuel, Beierle, Kautzman, LaPier, Ally Cleverly, Anna Revenaugh, Aspen Lovshin, Daly Shinnell, Emma Quist, Hannah Anderson, Lizzy Lalicker, Joy Revenaugh, Lexia Daunhauer, Kassidy Carlson, Marti Ludwick, Payton Carver, Brie Birkenbuel and Rabecca LaPier.

Daynen Lalicker is the team manager.

Overall, Butte had a strong weekend at the State Cup. The U13 Butte boys placed second, and the U16 boys and U13 girls placed third.
