Butte firefighters make the climb

PORTLAND, Ore. — Five Butte firefighters made it to the top of the U.S. Bank Tower Sunday during the 5th Annual Portland Firefighter Stair Climb Challenge.

The 42-floor climb raised money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Oregon Chapter. The competitors made the climb wearing full gear, which weighs 40-50 pounds.

Brant Bristol was the fastest Butte firefighter, completing the climb in 8 minutes, 12 seconds. He placed 12th. Zach Shade of Seattle won the event in 6:01.

Butte’s Chad Silk took 22nd in 8:44, while Mark McCarthy placed 35th in 9:17, Matt Doble placed 68th in 10:26 and Derek Harvey took 113th in 11:58.
