Butte firefighters Mark McCarthy, Chad Silk and Derek Harvey raced up 41 flights of stairs in Portland, Ore., to help raise money for the battle against cystic fibrosis.
The three Butte men raced up 800 steps inside the U.S. Bank Tower Sunday during the fourth annual Portland Firefighters Stair Climb. More than 400 firefighters from across the country competed in the event. Each firefighters was loaded with more than 70 pounds of gear during the climb.
McCarthy was the fastest Butte fireman, finishing the climb in 9 minutes, 16 seconds. Silk finished in 10:12, while Harvey reached the top in 12:12.
