Butte Central will be busy on National Signing Day

The Butte Central Rotunda will be National Signing Day central Wednesday as the school celebrates five seniors who will play college football.

Thomas McGree has signed to play with Carroll College, Trevor Neumann will play at Montana Tech, Matt Simkins and Guido Ossello will go to the University of Montana, and Aaron Richards will suit up at Montana State.

Butte Sports has previously reported on these signings and commitments. The school will host a serious of short ceremonies at the Rotunda to honor these players on Wednesday.

In addition to family and coaches, the students of Butte Central will also attend the ceremonies hosted by BC principal J.P. Williams.

McGree’s ceremony will kick things off at 8:45 a.m.

McGree signed with the Saints in December after playing quarterback for the Maroons in 2019, putting up one of the best seasons of any Class A quarterback while leading the Maroons to the playoffs. He passed for 2,272 yards and 19 touchdowns in nine games. He also ran for 510 yards and 11 touchdowns.

McGree, the son of Jim and Erin McGree, did a good chunk of that while playing with a cast to protect a broken bone on his left hand. He will play safety at Carroll College.

Neumann will be honored at a ceremony at 9. He confirmed his signing with Tech the same day Simkins confirmed that he committed to the Grizzlies.

Neumann will play receiver for the Orediggers after excelling at that position for the Maroons.

In 2019, Neumann caught 38 passes for 741 yards for the Maroons. The son of Dan and Jackie Neumann, Trevor Neumann will be the third member of his family to play for the Orediggers.

His brother Tanner played basketball at Tech, while his sister Danika played volleyball for the Orediggers.

A ceremony for Simkins and Ossello will be held at 11 a.m.

Simkins is following his brother Jake to the Grizzlies. After missing a chunk of his senior season to an injury, Simkins plans to play tight end at UM.

Simkins is the son of Randy and Wendy Simkins.

Ossello went from a Central golfer as a sophomore to one of the best Class A football players in the state as a senior. He committed to the Grizzlies in December.

The son of Guy and Missy Ossello caught 39 passes for 688 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 17.9 yards per catch.

Ossello also started at game at quarterback for the Maroons last season.

A ceremony for Richards will conclude the busy day at 1 p.m.

Richards announced his commitment to the Bobcats in July.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman helped lead the way as the Maroons up up more than 3,500 yards on the season. He will join McGree and Ossello on the West roster of the Montana East-West Shrine game. Neumann is an alternative for the game.

Richards is the son of Cyndy and Toby Richards. His brother Jonathan and cousin Aschan Richards both played football at the University of Montana before having their careers cut short by injuries.
