Butte Central captures first W of season after stinging Yellowjacket’s

The Butte Central baseball squad has been a work in progress to say the least, but that’s not due to lack of effort, the team has an average age of a junior little league team and they are learning and growing as they go.

Today they moved forward some more as the youngsters notched their first win of the year against Stevensville at 3 Legends Stadium on a sunny, warm, cold, and cloudy, all in one day.

In what seemed to be a nightmare of a first inning for the Maroons they watched 6 runs cross the plate to begin the contest. The Yellowjackets were throwing lawn darts, hitting 4 singles in the first inning and would lead 6-0 heading into the home half of the inning.

But Central answered right back as they scored 5 in their half of the inning on one hit to cut the lead to 6-5 after one. The Yellowjackets would score one more in the second off a BC error to make it 7-5.

That was as close as it would get for Stevensville as the Maroons erupted in the bottom of the second scoring 9 runs on 5 hits to take a 14-7 advantage. 9 different Maroons crossed the plate in the 17-9 victory.

Aiden Ossello had a big day at the plate as he drove in 6 runs on 3 hits to lead the Maroons. Ossello was raking at the plate as a double drove in 3 runs in the 2nd inning, he then blasted an other shot for a double in the 6th that drove in two more, and singled scoring another. Coy Campbell had a great day at the plate going 2-3.

Marquis Abad started on the rubber for the Maroons, he struck out 3 and walked three while giving up 8 hits on 7 runs, 6 earned. Colt Hassler came in for relief and tossed 5 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned, he also fanned 5 batters. The Maroons secured 9 hits, and scored 17 runs.

Richie O’Brien had this to say after the game.

“Very proud of the boys tonight. They dug themselves an early hole, but persevered, stayed in the game, and recovered from early errors. Aiden Ossello and Colt Hassler had their bats on fire and the rest of the boys followed suit. Colt also threw great in relief for us. All in all it was a great team win!”

Butte Central will return to action with their cross town rivals The Bulldogs this Saturday at 3 Legends Stadium.
