Butte Central Maroons 72 Frenchtown Broncs 65
In a fast-paced 1st quarter of the Western A Divisional Championship game between Butte Central and Frenchtown it did not disappoint as both teams traded blows throughout the period and both teams would be knotted at 12 apiece after 1.
Central struggled to score to begin the second and the score was neck and neck as Dougie drove and drew foul after foul to get his points at line in the first half, with under 5 to go Owen “Big Shot” McPartland knocked down a big three to go up 24-19 and Frenchtown would take a timeout.
Frenchtown answered with a 7-0 run to go up 27-24 and Butte Central would take a timeout as the offense just wasn’t clicking and each time Frenchtown got the ball they pressed the issue, 29-28 Frenchtown with just under two minutes to go. Zane Moodry had a big first half with 6 points and Jack Keeley who had a great first half tied it up after a three-point play 31-31.
The second half was just as interesting as the first maybe even better as Konnor Porchervina and Zane Moodry had some big buckets late in the quarter to keep It knotted at 44 after 3 quarters of play.
Frenchtown made life hell for Dougie most of the game, it’s hard to say that as he still found a way to drop 41 and still found ways to score and it was not easy. Like any great player, you’re not going to stop him all game you can only hope to contain him as he erupted in the 4th quarter as Frenchtown made it hard, but on the second night in a row Central escapes with a win in a hostile environment to become back-to-back Western A Division Champs, take this one 72-65.
Dougie erupted for 41 points, Jack Keeley had 12 Zane Moodry had 8, Kyle Holter had 6, Owen McPartland had 3, Konnor Porchervina and Eric Loos both had 2.
