Butte boys play for state title

A trip to California is hanging in the balance as the Butte All-Stars head to Billings to play for the Little League Baseball Intermediate title.

Butte takes on Laurel in the best-of-three series. The first game is at 6 p.m. Friday at Stewart Park.

The second game is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, and the third game, if necessary, will be held at 2 p.m.

The winner of the series travels to Irvine, Calif., for the Western Regional tournament to try to qualify for the Little League Intermediate 50/70 World Series.

The Butte boys won the District 2 title last weekend in Missoula.

This is the first year Little League is offering a world championship in the Intermediate division.

The Intermediate division is offered as a transition league between major baseball and senior baseball that is played on a regulation field. Instead of playing on a field where the mound is 60 feet, 6 inches from the plate and the bases are 90 feet apart, Intermediate baseball plays on a field that features a mound 50 feet from the plate and bases 70 feet apart.

Players 11 to 13 years old are eligible to play.

The Butte team is made up of players from the Northwest and Mile High Little Leagues. Trey Berger, Bryson Henningson, Noah Reynolds, Robin Bagley, Austin Gerry, Seth Reigard, Cameron Johnson, Tommy Martz, Liam Sommer, Ryan Moodry, Bryant Morris and Brayden Klobucar make up the Butte roster.

Randy Gerry is the head coach. He’s assisted by Robin Moodry and Dylan Morris.
