Butte High hosted Helena Capital this afternoon. Rumor has it that this is the best Bruin soccer team in 12 or 13 years. The Bruins lived up to those expectations taking a 10-0 win over the Bulldogs.
Playing 4 games in 8 days really has taken its toll the Bulldogs, but the final score shows that there’s some work ahead to be able to compete with the best in Western AA. Once again, the Bulldogs brought up 7 JV players to give their 11 varsity players a substitute. The Bulldogs picked up 2 wins in those eight days showing they are a team to reckon with.
The Bulldogs had a tough time right away with the size, speed and ball control of the Bruins. Because they were able to maintain such a good possession of the ball, they could pull up their fullbacks and overload the Bulldog defense with extra pressure. Butte High was unable to stop their onslaught and trailed 7-0 at the half.
During the halftime, the Bulldogs talked about never giving up and played better as a team after the break. Still, the Bulldog subs could not match the strength and skill of the Bruins and never even ad a real threat to score. Capital put in 3 more goals and the game ended 10-0.
The Bulldogs now have 8 days to recover before a road trip to Kalispell to take on Flathead and then Glacier.
