DILLON, Mont. – The No. 12 Montana Tech Orediggers were down one in the final seconds but Montana Western got the upset 67-64.
Chrishon Dixon hit a layup with 18 seconds left in the game to bring the Orediggers within a point 65-64. Jamal Stephenson hit a pair of free throws for the Bulldogs putting the margin to three.
A three-point attempt by Keeley Bake missed and there wasn’t enough time after two missed free throws by Stephenson.
The Bulldogs took advantage at the boards outrebounding the Orediggers 38-26. Western had 19 second chance points finishing with 14 offensive rebounds.
The Orediggers shot 42.3% in the game but went 10 of 17 from the free throw line and made just 8 of 14 attempts in the second half.
Asa Williams led the Orediggers with 23 points going 9 for 16 from the field and 3 for 6 from beyond the arc. Williams finished with half of the Orediggers six three-point makes. He also had a team-high seven rebounds.
Caleb Bellach had 15 points. Michael Ure and Bake finished with eight a piece.
Stephenson led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Ky Kouba had 14 points and nine rebounds.
Montana Tech (9-2) is off next week before the holiday break starts. Tech travels to Espanola, New Mexico December 17th to face Northern New Mexico College.
