HELENA — Butte High’s wrestling team opened an important week with a big win.
The Bulldogs used five pins and two forfeit victories for a 42-30 win over Helena Capital in a non-conference Class AA dual.
“It’s a nice way to start off the week of the AA Duals,” Butte High coach Cory Johnston said. “The kids wrestled with great effort, and we’re starting to see some big gains in important positions.”
Wil Queer wrestled up at 113 pounds and stuck Capital’s Traeton Duty in 1 minute 28 seconds. Scout Allen at pinned Wyatt Schneider of Capital in 1:18, while Carl Anderson needed 55 seconds to pin Bruin Dalton Snyder at 160 pounds.
Butte’s other two pins came at the hands of the Moreno twins.
Kobe Moreno pinned Keaton Pouliot in 2:36 at 170 pounds, and Kameron Moreno battled for 2:28 before sticking stick Alex McVey-Touchette at 2:28.
The Bulldogs picked up forfeit wins from Christian Sherman at 103 pounds and Kole McGrath at 145.
The biggest victory for Capital came at 120 pounds, where Tyler Coddington edged Butte’s Gabe Tierney in a 9-6 battle.
Noah Kovick (132 pounds), Cole Bradford (138), Travis Schulte (152), and Justin Jenks (285) picked up pins for the Bruins. Seth Jensen (205) won by decision.
The Bulldogs were once again without top-ranked heavyweight Jeff Queer. He has been out since suffering an injury while winning the Tom LeProwse Invitational title 10 days ago.
The Bulldogs will hit the road Saturday to compete in the Class AA Duals in Great Falls.
