Bulldogs swimmers strong in Helena

HELENA — The Butte High girls took six place while the boys finished fifth at the Bohn-Morer Invitational Swim Meet in Helena.

Butte High switched up its lineup so swimmers were entered in events they normally don’t swim.

“We were trying to give them a rest from the races they will be swimming at state,” Butte High coach Lynn Shrader said. “There were many personal best times.’

There were many top 10 Butte High finishes on the girls’ side.

The 200 medley relay comprised of Adria Bentley, Carlee Johnson, Aidan Amtmann, and Airka Bentley took seventh.  The 200 free relay of Airika Bentley, Carlee Johnson, Kayla Sessions and Adria Bentley captured a sixth place finish.  Also, the 400 free relay of Afton Ferry, Aidan Amtmann, Haley Hildreth, and Kayla Sessions took ninth.

There were also some good individual top 10 finishes. Adria Bentley took fourth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly. Kayla Sessions took eighth is the 200 free with a personal best time of over a 7 second drop.  Airika Bentley took sixth in the 100 free, and seventh in the 100 breast.

For the boys,  the 200 medley relay of Blaine Berrington, Keegan Whelan, Jacob Wheeler, and Jake Bentley took fifth.  The 200 free relay of Chad Hicks, Rudy Telling, Caleb Reichhardt, and Jack Walker took 10th. Also, the boys 400 free A relay of Jake Bentley, Blaine Berrington, Caleb Reichhardt, and Keegan Whelan took fifth, while the B relay of Jack Walker, Chad Hicks, Rudy Telling, and Jacob Wheeler took eighth.

Individual top 10 finishes were; Keegan Whelan took fifth in the 100 fly, and second in the 100 back.  Jacob Wheeler took third in the 100 back, and third in the 100 breast.  Jake Bentley took eighth in the 100 free, and sixth in the 200 IM.  And Blain Berrington captured fifth place in the 100 back.

“It was a very strong day, and we are looking forward to state,” Shrader said.

The state meet is Feb. 8-9 in Hardin.
