BILLINGS — Butte High’s track team headed to Daylis Stadium looking for a measuring stick for its second competition of the season Thursday.
Butte High’s boys measured up on the picture-perfect afternoon in the Magic City.
The Bulldogs edged Billings Senior 74-70 in a non-conference dual at Daylis Stadium. Senior won the girls’ dual 129-15, taking advantage of a huge discrepancy in roster size. (Results)
Again, Butte High athletes posted numerous personal-best marks.
On the boys’ side, the Bulldogs picked up eight individual victories by eight different individuals on the day.
The Bulldog boys were strong in the distance races. Kaden Hennessey won the 800 meters, Ladd Hutchinson ran to victory in the 1,600, and Ryan Tomich topped the field in the 3,200. Hennessey and Tomich posted PR’s.
Gavin Vetter cleared 12 feet, 6 inches for the second straight week to win the pole vault, and Holt Downey won the 300-meter hurdles for the second time this year.
Keegen Muffich won the shot put with a mark of 43-10, and Bo Demarais and Cameron Tobiness won the long jump and triple jump. Demarais posted a PR in the long jump with a leap of 19-2 ½. Tobiness went 37-8 in the triple.
A Senior competitor won all the events on the girls’ side.
Mollee Conlan ran to second in the 100- and 200-meter races to lead Butte High. Darby Harrington took second in the 300 hurdles, and Aili McClafferty finished second in the javelin.
Also for Butte High, Teagan Kennis took third in the long jump and triple jump, and Pieper Joseph finished third in the 800.
The Bulldogs will compete again next Thursday when they host a meet that will include Kalispell Glacier, Dillon and Butte Central.
