Bulldogs second in final home meet

Butte High’s boys’ and girls’ track teams placed second in a triangular with Billings Senior and Missoula Sentinel Saturday at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.

Senior won both events on a day that Butte High wasn’t running at full strength. The Bulldogs are looking to get and stay healthy less than two weeks before the Eastern AA Divisional meet.

Senior scored 97 points to win the girls’ team title. The Bulldogs scored 54, while Sentinel tallied 29.

Senior scored 67 points to win the boys’ title. Butte High scored 57, and Sentinel scored 56.

The Bulldog girls got first-place finishes from Natalee Faupel in the triple jump, Hailey Hoagland in the 400 and the 1,600-meter relay team.

Faupel jumped 33 feet, 11 1/2 inches to win the triple jump. Teammate Erica McLeod placed second in that event at 33-8 1/2. Bulldog Rachel Anderson was third at 33-0 3/4.

Hoagland won the 400 in 1 minute, 3.61 seconds, barely edging teammate Mariah Richardson’s 1:03.64.

Hoagland, Richardson, Faupel and Bailee Hanson won the long relay in 4:19.19. Hoagland also took second in the 100.

Butte High got a second-place performance from Brianna O’Mara, who qualified for State with a personal-best 33-3 1/2 shot put.

Anderson placed second in the long jump, while McKenzee O’Neill was second in the javelin, Andie Hogan took second in the 800 and the Bulldogs ran to second in the short relay. Faupel added a third place in the javelin.

Other top Butte High performances saw Kassida Caprara placed second in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the long jump, Hanson run to third in thee 800, Jessie Buckley take third in the shot put, Lexi Murphy place fourth in the 400, Hannah Amtmann take fourth in the 1,600 and Afton Ferry placed fourth in the discus.

Butte High’s boys’ picked up six first-place finishes.

Keadon Caprara had a big day for the Bulldogs, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 42.09 seconds. He also placed second in the 110 hurdles and the long jump.

Peter Granger, who took third in the high jump, won the long jump in 19-8 3/4.

Jake Dennehy won the discus with a throw of 140-02, and Mitchell Harper’s 5-8 high jump was good for first place.

Kyle Christie continued his big season by winning the pole vault by clearing 13-6. He cleared 14 feet last week.

Jake Eisenbarth, Zach Bunney, Bo Taylor and Dalton Daum won the 400-meter relay in 43.60 seconds.

Daum, who is battling injuries, also placed third in the 100 and 400.

Anthony “Chunk” Moritz placed second in the shot put with a mark of 44-10.

Other top Butte High performances include Taylor taking third in the 200, Bunney placing fourth in the 100 and 200, Clay Dean taking third in the 300 hurdles, Drew Schleeman placing third in the javelin, Chad Hicks taking third in the pole vault, Connor Lee throwing to third in the discus, Damien Haydon taking fourth in the long jump and the 1,600-meter relay team running to third.

The Bulldogs head to Bozeman for a meet next Thursday. Divisionals are May 17-18 in Great Falls. State is the following week in Bozeman.
