MISSOULA — Butte High’s Hailee Regan and Abby Dodge booked a trip to the Class AA State track meet Tuesday.
The Bulldogs posted qualifying marksduring the unscored team Missoula Quad at Missoula County Stadium. Results
Regan, who is off to a great start to her sophomore season, won the shot up with a mark of 35 feet, 4 inches. She beat the qualifying mark by 1 inch.
Dodge, a junior, once again placed in three events. That included a second-place finish in the triple jump with a qualifying mark of 35-5 ½. She beat the mark by an inch and a half. Dodge placed third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the high jump.
Riley Vaughn picked up Butte High’s lone win on the boys’ side. He won the discus with a mark of 128-3.
Butte High’s girls’ team saw nine athletes place in the top six in at least one event.
Freshman Ally Clevery ran to third place in the 400 and fifth in the 200, while Lauren Sullivan took third in the shot put.
Other Bulldogs to place in the top six were Nicole Hyatt (fourth, pole vault), Mar Sorini (sixth, 100), Joby Rosenleaf (sixth, 1,600), Josey Earles (sixth, shot put) and Gabbie Parini (sixth, high jump).
Butte High’s boys saw 17 athletes place in the top six in at least one event.
Nolan Boyle placed second in the shot put, while Bryce Gallagher took second in the javelin.
Quinn Dennehy placed third in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, Brian LaFond placed third in the high jump, Bryce Liebel took third in the shot put and sixth in the discus, Kyle Klapan placed fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus, Kiley Caprara tied for fourth in the triple jump, Ty Peterson tied for fourth in the pole vault, and Sean Cooney took fifth in the long jump.
Cooney also tied for fifth in the high jump with Butte High teammates Nathaniel Ferguson.
Other Butte High boys to place in the top six were Justin Best (fifth, 100), Gabe Tierney (fifth, 400), Josh Cox (fifth, 110 hurdles), Alex Dorr (fifth, javelin), Jake Vetter (sixth, 800) and Branden Jenkin (sixth, pole vault).
Next up for the Bulldogs is a meet Saturday in Great Falls.
