Ignoring that Butte High beat Great Falls Russell by three touchdowns in the first game of the season, Montana voters selected CMR as the No. 1 team in Class AA football in the latest Associated Press Power Poll.
The poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon, has Butte High ranked No. 2, followed by Billings West, Helena High and Kalispell Glacier.
CMR and Butte High are the only 6-1 teams in the Class AA. Butte High beat CMR 41-20 Aug. 24 in Butte. That game was the first game of the season for both teams. Butte High’s lone loss came the next week as the Bulldogs fell 55-48 at Billings Skyview. CMR won its last six games, including a 34-27 Sept. 28 home win over Skyview.
CMR, which was No. 1 last week, received seven first-place votes and 124 points. Butte High took home six first-place votes and 123 total points.
Billings Central is the unanimous No. 1 team in the Class A. Defending state champion Dillon is No. 2.
Manhattan is still the top team in Class B, while Fairview stayed in the top spot in Class C 8-Man. Hot Springs is No. 1 in Class C 6-Man
