Bulldogs ranked fifth in first poll

The first prep football power poll of the 2013 season came out this afternoon, and the defending state champion Butte High Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in the state.

The Bulldogs, who fell 38-28 at Helena Capital last Friday, are the highest ranked 1-1 team in the Class AA poll, which is conducted by The Associated Press. The top four teams are 2-0.

Bozeman, which fell to Butte High in the state title game last November in Butte, is ranked No. 1. The Hawks received eight of the nine first-place votes. No. 2 Capital received the other first-place vote.

Kalispell Glacier is ranked third, while Helena High is No. 4. Butte High plays at Great Falls Russell on Friday.

Billings Central, which plays host to Butte Central Saturday, is ranked No. 1 in the Class A poll. Dillon is ranked No. 2 and Belgrade, which beat Butte Central in the season opener is No. 3. The Maroons received votes in the poll.
