Bulldogs post double wins in dual with Hellgate

MISSOULA — Three Butte High Bulldogs posted wins in two events Thursday as the track team closed the regular season in a dual with Missoula Hellgate.

Team scores from the meet are not available, but Thursday was clearly a good day for the Bulldogs at Missoula County Stadium. (Results)

Seniors Anna Trudnowski and Tanner Huff joined junior Holt Downey with two wins on the day to lead the Bulldog effort.

Trudnowski, who did not compete in the high jump, won both hurdles races. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.51 before finishing first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.97 seconds.

The future Montana State Bobcat was one of five Bulldog girls to chalk up a first-place finish on the day.

Junior Mollee Conlan won the 100 meters with a time of 13.39 seconds. Freshman Autumn Silk raced to first in the 200, posting a personal-best time of 28.64.

Silk was one of two Bulldog freshmen with a win. Hannah Kluck won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 11 inches for the win.

The Bulldogs got a win in the pole vault by senior Madalynn Rhodes. She cleared 8 feet for the win. She also took third in the javelin.

Butte High senior Rylinn Mullaney placed second in the long jump and third in the 100 meters.

Cora Rauch (shot put), Allyson Muller (javelin) and Teagan Kennis (triple jump) notched second-place finishes. Gabriel McPeek (200), Beth Sampson (shot put), Kennadie McMahon (high jump), Kandel Kovnesky (pole vault) and Kierah Killoy (triple jump) each took home a third.

Huff ran to victory in the 100 and 200 for Butte High, which dominated the sprints on the boys’ side. He finished the 100 in 11.13 before running the 200 in 22.85. Huff also placed third in the javelin.

Downey won both hurdles races. His time in the 110-meter hurdles was a personal best time of 16.51. He won the 300 hurdles in 43.20.

Brennen Blume and Christian Hansen also posted wins for the Butte High boys, who swept the relay titles. Blume, a senior, cleared a personal-best 14-4 to win the pole vault.

Hansen, also a senior, jumped 21-9 to win the long jump.

Zach Merrifield placed second in the 100 and 200, and fellow senior Christian Vetter took second in the long jump and third in the 200.

Other Bulldogs with second-place performances were Issac Kohler (400), Jakob Nielsen (300 hurdles), Morgan McClernan (110 hurdles), Tucker LeProwse (javelin), Cameron Gurnsey (high jump), Gavin Vetter (pole vault) and Cameron Tobiness (triple jump).

Butte High boys with third-place showings were Sean Ossello (triple jump), Jaric Sparks (pole vault), Jonas Sherman (high jump), Kyler Stenson (discus), D.J. Jackson (shot put), Colton Case (800), Kaden Hennessey (400) and Dylan Snyder (100).

The next time Butte High competes will be when the Bulldogs host the Western AA Divisional meet next Friday and Saturday at the Charlie Merrifield Track at the Gene Fogarty Complex.
