MISSOULA — Butte High athletes piled up personal records and season bests Friday afternoon in a dual with Missoula Big Sky.

Team scores for the event were not kept in the dual that was run through sunshine and rain drops at Missoula County Stadium. (Results)

The Bulldogs racked up 13 individual wins on the day. Butte High’s boys picked up nine of those wins. They also swept the relay races.

Butte High’s performance in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles were the highlight of the day for the Bulldog boys. Holt Downey won the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.00 seconds. Fellow seniors Morgan McClernan and Jakob Nielsen followed in 42.66 and 44.67. Nielsen’s time was a personal record.

McClernan won a close 110 hurdles, barely beating Downey. Both finished with a time of 15.54 seconds, which beat the qualifying standard for the Class AA State meet.

Amusingly, the results listed Butte High senior Devon Cook, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound future Montana Western offensively lineman, as taking second in the event. Cook was listed mistakenly instead of Downey.

Seniors Dylan Snyder and Kenley Leary each added a first and a third in the day. Snyder won the 100-meter dash with a PR of 11.48 seconds. He took third in the high jump.

Leary ran to first in the 200 with a season-best time of 23.97 seconds. He took third in the 100.

Sophomore Jack Luoma wont the 100 meters with a PR of 55.75 seconds, sophomore Kyler Stenson won the discus with a mark of 120-3, and sophomore Trey Hanson won the javelin with a PR mark of 153-2.

Senior Gavin Vetter cleared 13 feet to win the pole vault, and junior Cameron Tobiness PR’d with a leap of 39-5 ¼ to win the triple jump.

Butte’s Eli Wroblewski took third in the 800 and finished strong to place second in the 1,600. Kaden Hennessey PR’d to take second in the 200 and ran to fourth in the 800.

Jonas Sherman cleared 6 feet to take second in the high jump. Big Sky freshman Porter Gibbs won by clearing 6-4.

Bulldog Hunter Hotalen took second with a PR in the discus, and Alex Watson placed second in the triple jump. Sean Ossello jumped 20-0 ½, a PR, to take second in the long jump. Wiley Dallaserra placed third.

Keegen Muffich (shot put), Brady Maloughney (1,600), Vance Stapley (3,200), Sheldon Wetzel (110 hurdles) placed third for Butte High.

On the girls’ side, Bulldog senior Mollee Conlan won the 100 and took third in the 200. Her time of 12.99 seconds in the 100 was a season-best time. It also beat the qualifying standard for State

Junior Madison Seaholm won the 400 in 1:05.49, McKenzie Case won the 3,200 in 14:10.76, and sophomore Neveah Waldman won the high jump with a PR of 4-3.

Senior Pieper Joseph posted three personal records, taking second in the 800, third in the 400 and fourth in the long jump.

Senior Teagan Kennis took second in the triple jump with a PR of 31-9. She took second in the long jump.

Bulldog Olivia Spear placed third in the pole vault, Abby Mellott finished fourth in the javelin, and Cora Rauch placed fifth in the shot put.

Butte High will host a meet that includes Bozeman, Gallatin and Sheridan next Thursday. That will be the Bulldogs’ final tune up before heading back to Missoula for the Western AA Divisional meet May 20-21.

The Class AA State meet is May 27-28 in Butte. 1 comment
