HELENA — Butte High track coach Arie Grey called it “very good first meet.”
Seniors Christian Vetter and Anna Trudnowski each picked up a pair of wins to highlight the day as the Bulldogs opened the season with a dual against Helena High at Vigilante Stadium.
The Bengals swept the dual titles, winning the boys’ dual 81-63 and the girls’ 95-46. (Results)
Trudnowski led the Bulldog girls by winning the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. The future Montana State Bobcat ran hurdles in 17.12 seconds and matched her personal best by clearing 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump. She also placed third in the 200.
Butte High’s girls posted four victories on the day. Madalynn Rhodes won the javelin with a mark of 114 feet, 6 inches, and Taylinn Garrett jumped 15-6 to win the long jump. Future Montana Tech Oredigger Hailey Nielson ran to victory in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5 minutes, 37.26 seconds.
Vetter picked up wins in the 100 and long jump for the Bulldogs. His winning time in the sprint was 11.15 seconds. He busted out a long jump of 21-3 ¼.
Vetter was one of six Bulldog boys to post a victory on the day.
Tanner Huff, who finished second in the 100, won the javelin with a toss of 163-3. Sophomore Issac Kohler won the 400 in his Bulldog debut. He finished in 58.4 seconds.
Morgan McClernan won the 110 hurdles in 17.5 seconds, and Dylan Snyder cleared 6 feet to win the high jump. Christian Hansen leapt 40-5 ¾ to win the triple jump.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a home meet Friday against Kalispell Glacier and Butte Central. The meet, which was moved up a day, will begin at 1 p.m.
