Bulldogs head to divisional tennis

The whole season has led up to this for the Butte High tennis teams.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Southern AA Divisional tournament at Bozeman High school. Play begins at 9 a.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

On the line is a trip to next week’s Class AA State tournament in Great Falls.

The Southern AA is made up of Butte High, Bozeman and Helena High.

Butte High’s No. 1 girls’ doubles team of Kaitlyn Vetter and Aidan Amtmann are looking for a return trip to State. The rest of the Bulldogs traveling to Bozeman are hoping to make the big dance for the first time.

Molly Nelson, Ali Dean, Jesslyn Valle and Baili Connors will play singles for Butte High’s girls. Nelson, the No. 1 Butte High singles player, earned a first-round bye.

Dean will play Juliann Jones of Helena High in the first round. Valle will take on Bozeman’s Leo Barton in the first round, while Connors plays Maddie Sherting of Helena High.

Vetter and Amtmann also received a first-round bye.

Butte High’s Sierra McGinnis and McKaul Ori will open doubles play against Helena High’s Jenna Starke and Shelby Pugh. Bulldogs Lexi Brandon and Molly Sprunger open against Kayla Ryan and Jessica Simkins of Bozeman.

Also, Butte High’s Carlee Johnson and Sophie Luektens will take on Madison Trevor and Liz Spindler of Helena High.

Tyler Reilly, Blake Casagranda, Andy Kelly and Dennis Powers will represent Butte High’s boys in singles play.

Reilly and Kelly earned a first-round byes. Casagranda opens against Garrett Ryerson of Helena, while Powers takes on Jake Martel of Bozeman.

In doubles action, Butte’s No. 1 team of Tucker Reilly and Kody Lane have a first round bye. They could play Bulldogs Griff Warner and Tanner Tregidga in their first match. Warner and Tregidga first have to get past Oliver Carr and Colton Little of Bozeman.

Butte’s David Starcevich and Levin Mullaney will open the tournament against Hans Harris and Nick Thompson of Helena High.

Bulldogs Seth Jacksha and Marcus Madrazo play Reilly Perisot and Drew Carpenter of Helena High.
