Bulldogs fourth in Bozeman pool

BOZEMAN — Both the Butte High girls and boys swim team placed fourth at the Bozeman Invitational Saturday.

The top eight places scored points in each event.

On the girls’ side, the 200-yard freestyle relay of Airika Bentley, Afton Ferry, Aidan Antmann and Carlee Johnson captured fifth place, while the 400 free relay of Haley Hildreth, Mickenzie Cantwell, Paige Powers and Hannah Antmann took fourth.

Butte High also had some strong individual places. Carlee Johnson took fifth in both the 200 individual medley and the 400 free.  Afton Ferry took sixth in the 200 IM.  Airika Bentley took third in the 100 free, and sixth in the 100 back, and Haley Hildreth took sixth in the 100 butterfly.

On the boys’ side, the 200 free relay of Keegan Whelan, Gavin Sison, Chad Hicks and Jake Bentley took second, as did  the 400 free relay of Bentley, Levin Mullaney, Caleb Reichhardt, and Whelan.

Individually, there were some top places also.  Whelan won the 200 IM and placed second in the 100 free.  Levin Mullaney took fifth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 fly, taking 12 seconds off his best time.

Chad Hicks took seventh in the 200 free, Caleb Reichhardt took  eighth place in the 100 breast stroke. Bentley, who is swimming with a broken hand, took eighth in the 100 free.

“Bozeman has a 50 meter pool, not a 25 yard, so it was quite a change for our swimmers,” Bulldog coach Lynn Shrader said. “With that, however, they did very well and competed hard.  Both teams did well for the first meet after the holiday break.”
