Bulldogs control their own destiny, look to lock up Western AA 1 seed

Butte High Bulldogs (6-2), (5-2) VS Helena Capital Bruins (5-3), (4-2).

The Butte High Bulldogs are no stranger to adversity on the football field, in fact they may be as good as they are this year because of the way they have handled that adversity.

Last week Butte had a chance to lock up a 1 seed, a first round bye and a home playoff game but, they got a wake up call in a 33-7 lopsided loss in a game where field position was king for Helena and not so much for Butte High.

This week that same goal is right in front of them and it’s pretty simple win and you’re  the 1 seed in the West or lose and drop to as low as the 4 seed depending on other outcomes in the final week of the regular season.

This week they face another test Thursday night as they host the defending State Champion Helena Capital Bruins on senior night.

Helena is led by junior QB Merek Mihelish under center. So far this season he’s completed 70-100 pass attempts, throwing for 142 yards a game and a season total of 994 yards to go with 9 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Dylan Almquist is his top target and has caught 24 balls for 349 yards and 5 total touchdowns, he averages 14.5 yards a catch and 50 receiving yards per game.

Senior running back Tuff Adams is an absolute force on the ground, in 7 games played he’s carried the ball 71 times for 444 yards and a staggering 7 rushing scores, he averages 6 plus yards a carry and 63 yards per game.

The Capital defense has been relentless in the games they win holding their opponent to only 10 points a game and is led by senior James Bryon who has 81 total tackles on the season, 47 of them solo and he averages 11.6 tackles per game.

On the other side of the puzzle are the Butte High Bulldogs who have played great football this year and rode a 5-game winning streak most of the way knocking teams off left and right.

It’s senior night and senior QB Bo Demarais has some pretty impressive numbers heading into his final regular season home game as a Bulldog. Bo has completed 134 of 235 pass attempts for a whopping 1,620 yards through the air, he’s thrown for 13 touchdowns and leads the rushing for the Dogs with 7 scores and has 10 interceptions on the year.

Senior wideout Rueso Battermann has 33 catches, 545 yards, he’s averaging 68 receiving yards a game to go with 5 touchdowns. Tight end Hudson Luedtke is right there with Rueso at 65 yards a game and 5 touchdowns.

Senior Will Taylor has stood out this season too with some incredible catches, he’s averaging 30 receiving yards per game to go with one touchdown.

Senior running back Trey Hansen has also had himself a year chewing off yards on the ground for the Dogs, he’s carried the rock 101 times for 475 yards and 3 touchdowns, Trey has also surpassed the century mark 2 times this season. Running mate Karson Pumnea is a great compliment to Trey as he has racked up 436 ground yards and 4 TD’s.

Tocher Lee has 514 all-purpose yards on the year.

Seniors Nolan Casey, Luke Verlanic,  and Aiden Cuchine all lead the Dogs in tackles per game with just about 8 a game. Senior Kyler Stenson and Kade Scheelman will look to disrupt the rushing attack and fluster the QB and add to their season tackle and sack totals on senior night.

Kickoff is this Thursday at 7PM, they will celebrate the seniors at 630 and get the brawl on shortly afterwords. Pack the house with purple Butte, we will see you there!
