Bulldogs continue to shine at the Civic Center defeating Capital

For the 2nd time this week the Bulldogs hosted a home basketball game welcoming the State Capital Bruins to town. Helena opened up the scoring with a jumper from the foul line followed by a Brityn Stewart drive and foul to knot things up in the early going.

The lid was on both teams baskets in the first as Butte held a 1 point advantage 4 minutes in, 3-2. Taylor Drakos would end the scoring drought off a nice find from Cadence Graham for the fast break bucket for two. Helena was afforded great shots but just couldn’t find the bottom of the net.

Ashlinn Mullaney would then bury a rainbow triple from the corner for 3, 8-2 Bulldogs after one. The scoring struggles for both teams continued as Dylann Bartoletti hit one of two at the stripe. Helena finally ended their 8 minute scoring drought after a lay in, 9-4 Butte with 3:30 to play in the half. Ashlinn Mullaney splashed home another triple to give the Dogs an 8 point edge before a Bulldog timeout.

Capital would splash home a triple of their own to cut the Bulldog lead to 5 with 45 seconds to play. With two seconds to go Catherine Sholey out worked everyone for the rebound to knock down 1 of 2 at the line and after a very low scoring first half Butte took a 13-8 lead to the locker room.

Like the first quarter Helena didn’t waste anytime scoring as they came out and converted a 3 point lead to cut it to 15-11 but not before Cadence Graham found her stroke in the corner for a triple.

After a slow first half both teams traded buckets, Capital came right back down and ran a pick and roll for another deuce 18-13 Butte. Graham would find a nice lane and drive to the hole for 2 more Bulldog points after the Helena shooting cooled off late in the 3rd. Stewart was fouled down low on Buttes next possession and hit both at the line.

Off a kick to the corner Capital splashed home another triple to cut the Bulldog lead to 9, fouled on their next possession hitting a bucket for 2 but missing the bonus shot at the line Butte would lead 25-18 with 38 seconds to play in the 3rdquarter.

Brit Stewart got herself going at the line as she continued to knock down her freebees at the stripe and the Dogs would lead after three quarters of play 27-18.

Capital came out to start the 4th off a nice back door cut for 2 to cut the lead to 7. The Bulldogs kept striking back after a nice dish from Stewart to Mullaney for another Bulldog triple, 30-20 Butte High with 6:30 to play.

Cadence Graham continued to be a great floor general and off a great Catherine Sholey pick, Graham sliced her way to the bucket for the and 1 bucket, 33-22 Butte high, timeout Capital.

Butte stayed the course and stuck to their game plan and continued to play through their offense as Franki Salusso found Stewart on a cut and she hit a little jumper for 2 to give the Dogs a 12 point lead. Cadence Graham took control late in the 4th splashing home another long distance triple upping the Bulldog lead to 15.

Butte would stay in control the remainder of the way and cruise to another victory over Helena Capital 43-33. The win moves Butte to (3-2, 6-3) overall, they will head to Helena High this weekend for their 3rd game of the week after playing a makeup game Tuesday.
