Bulldog Volleyball Falls in 5 Set Heartbreaker

By Holly Jordan Carpenter

After a match where the Butte High Bulldog Volleyball team left everything they had on the court, they headed home with a heartbreaking five set loss to Helena Capital.

It wasn’t looking good for the Bulldogs when they lost the first two sets (S1: 25 – 18, S2: 25 – 21) but they came back with a vengeance to win sets three and four each ending with a score of 25 – 17. The high energy tie breaker ended with the Bulldogs falling 15 – 13 to the Bruins.

For the Senior Class, Laura Rosenleaf, had a great night with 22 kills (a new individual match record) and 16 digs; Ashlyn Burnett had 7 digs, 2 kills and 1 ace; Averie Olsen added 7 kills and 3 aces; and Camille Kautzman ended the night with 1 kill, an impressive 24 digs and 1 assist. Juniors Maddee Luedtke, Kaiceee Liva, Taylor Drakos and Mickenzie McIntyre helped with the numbers. Luedtke had 7 kills and 2 aces, Liva had 1 kill, 7 digs and 1 assist, Drakos had 5 digs, 1 ace and 1 assist and McIntyre had 8 kills, 4 digs and 9 assists. Not to be outdone by the older girls, Jaycee Cleveland came to play adding 2 kills, 1 ace, 15 digs and 36 assists and Mylee Demarais put 1 dig into the books.

Coach Shane Jorgensen said, “Everybody on this team played their hearts out. I could not be more proud of the way we played, we continue to get better with every single game.”

The Bulldogs will meet the Missoula Sentinel Spartans on Tuesday, September 27th, at Ross J Richardson Gymnasium. The varsity game begins at 7:00PM.
