Butte High’s swimming team put together a slew personal records Saturday as the Bulldogs hosted the Montana Classic at the Butte Family YMCA.
“The team had a lot of personal bests today,” Bulldog coach Lynn Shrader said. “We are swimming stronger and faster. I am very proud of all of the swimmers.”
Kalispell Glacier’s girls and Missoula Sentinel’s boys claimed team titles. The Glacier girls scored 351 points. Helena High was second at 273, followed by Bozeman at 232.
The Sentinel boys scored 277 points to best second-place Bozeman Gallatin by 10 points. Glacier took third at 255.5.
Butte High’s boys scored 133 points, finishing one point behind eighth-place Helena Capital.
The top 16 individuals and top eight relay teams scored team points.
Senior Thad Holdsworth led the Butte High boys. He placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100 breast stroke.
Sophomore Kershaw Mellott placed eighth in the 200 freestyle and 10th in the 100 back stroke, while junior Ladd Hutchinson placed sixth in the 200 individual medley and 14th in the 100 free.
Ziah Garza, Hutchinson, Holdsworth and Mellott same to fifth place in the 200 medley relay. The same four boys also placed eighth in the 200 medley relay.
On the girls’ side, Butte High scored 51 points.
Sophomore Lily Jaksha placed ninth in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle for the Bulldogs. Senior teammate Carley Trefts took 11th in the 500 freestyle and 16th in the 50 freestyle.
Butte junior Alex Kovnesky placed 13th in the 200 individual medley.
Trefts, Jacksha, Ireland Johnston and Kovnesky placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday in a meet in Bozeman.
