Bulldog swimmers head to Great Falls for State

Butte High will send 12 swimmers to the MHSA State Swim Meet, which will be held Friday and Saturday at the Great Falls High pool.

The Bulldogs will have seven boys and five girls competing in the event.

Racing for the Butte boys will be seniors Thad Holdsworth and Brady Maloughney, junior Lad Hutchinson, sophomores Jack Luoma and Kershaw Mellott, and freshmen Ziah Garza and Blair Hamry.

Holdsworth, who is closing a remarkable career with the Bulldogs, is ranked in the top three in both of his events. He is ranked No. 2 in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly.

Seniors Carley Trefts, Kinzie Mason and Kieyrah Killoy, junior Alex Kovnesky and sophomore Lily Jaksha race for the Butte High’s girls.

Butte High coach Lynn Shrader said the strength of the Bulldogs could be the relays. She said some swimmers could compete in three relays and one individual event.

“Relays are double points, and my relays have a chance to place,” the coach said.

Action begins at 11 a.m. both days.
