Bulldog Soccer drops Two in Missoula

The Butte High Boys Soccer team traveled to Missoula to take on the Sentinel Spartans today. Butte High struck first after James Hadley stole the ball from a Sentinel defender and fed Jack Luoma for a left footed goal. Sentinel answered right away and took a 2-1 lead into the half.

3 minutes into the 2nd half, Cameron Tobiness tied the score 2-2 after intercepting a Sentinel goal keeper pass. With the Spartans ability to control possession of the ball, they also were to overload the Bulldog defense with extra pressure. The result was the Spartans adding 4 more to pull away and win the match 6-2.

“Once again, I was pleased with how hard our team played for the entire game. We had chances. They just had more chances–especially in the 2nd half as they wore us down with their spread out passing attack.” Coach Carpenter
“We also shifted our lineup around a bit today to try a different look. Cooper McKee played tough for us on defense today and save 2 goals himself with his quick feet.”
“We will continue to work on our touch and ball control as we prepare this week for Hellgate and Big Sky.”
The Missoula Sentinel Spartans defeated the new look Dogs 7-0 playing a patient and smart game.
The Butte High Girls team switched things up in their match with the Spartan.  Several players played different positions and created positive contributions in  their new rolls. “We changed things up and were able to add pressure to the Sentinel defense but still no goals.”Coach Shahan added, “Kaylee LaPier was great in goal again for us.”
Coach Shahan also pointed out the personal and team growth that he is seeing each week.  He gave credit to that growth to the Seniors and Juniors on the team as they grow in their  leadership rolls and lead the younger player by example.  He added, “It is uplifting to see so many girls working hard and supporting each other.”
The soccer teams play at home Tuesday against Hellgate, Boys at 3PM, Girls at 5PM (Homecoming.
