Bulldog JV splits on Day 2 of Combo Invitational

Butte High’s junior varsity softball team won one and lost one Saturday during the second day of Butte Central’s LaVerne Combo Invitational.

After dropping an 11-9 heartbreaker in eight innings to Corvallis, the Bulldogs battled back to beat Hamilton. The Bulldogs played the Corvallis and Hamilton varsity teams.

The games close the book on the season for the Bulldogs.

Butte High 8, Hamilton 4
Kamber Leary pitched for the Bulldogs and she made a beautiful diving play to end the game after Hamilton took advantage of three errors to rally for three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Cami Kautzman poked three hits to lead the Bulldog offense. Bryn Godbout and Dacelyin Lafond each added two hits, while Natalie Lynch, Taylor Drakos and Pieper Joseph each hit one.

Hamilton struck first with a run in the top of the first. Butte High answered with one in the bottom of the inning. Then the Bulldogs took command with five runs in the third.

Corvallis 11, Butte High 9 (8 innings)
This one was a wild one.

Corvallis scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 9-5 lead. Butte High battled back to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Butte High had the bases loaded with one out and the game tied. It took a miracle for the Blue Devils to extend the game, and they got it A bunt turned into a double play, and Corvallis put up two runs in the top of the eighth.

Maddi Jonart homered and Wisdom Hanninen doubled to lead Butte High’s offensive effort. Jonart also added a single and was joined by Leary with a two-hit game.

Kautzman, Lynch, Drakos and Ashby Lee added hits for Butte High.
