Bulldog JV battles to tie with Bozeman frosh

BOZEMAN — The Butte High girls’ junior varsity soccer team played to a 2-all tie with the Bozeman frosh on a freshly-plowed field Tuesday afternoon.

Lexie Kautzman and Gabbie Perini scored for the Bulldogs, who played just their second subvarsity match of the season.

“I think that’s the first time we’ve ever had anything with Bozeman, at least on the girls’ side,” Butte High head coach Kevin Petritz said.

Perini, one of several Butte High players who took the soccer field for the first time this season, scored the game-tying goal in the 78th minute of the 80-minute match. Seconds later she slipped behind the defense and got off a potential game-winning shot that bounced off the crossbar.

Petritz said the Bulldogs also got outstanding play from Riley Duffy and goalkeeper Allison Collins.

The tie puts the Butte High girls’ JV team at 0-1-1.

The Bulldog varsity team closes out the regular season Thursday against Bozeman at the Jeremy Bullock Complex. Butte High needs to win that 5 p.m. match in order to host a playoff game. The boys’ match starts at 3.
