Bulldog grapplers pin LeProwse placings

BOZEMAN — Butte High wrestlers collected five total place-winnings in the 50th Tom LeProwse Memorial Bozeman Invitational high school wrestling tournament held last weekend in the Gallatin High gym.
Sophia Grunhuvd won the 126-pound class in the girls’ division of the tournament.
The Butte High boys scored 152 points for eighth place as a team. Billings West edged Kalispell Flathead 251 1/2 to 250 in the boys’ standings. Great Falls High was third with 212 in the 36-team competition.
Butte High place-winners were Maverick McEwen, second at 160, Kade Schleeman, third in the 285-pound weight class, Keegan Hunt fifth at 103, and Will Stepan sixth at 152.
Grunhuvd’s win led the Bulldog girls to 55 points in the 40-team field. Billings Senior won with 173 points, Billings Skyview was second with 87 and Baker third with 83. Aydin Gonzales picked up a third place at 120 pounds, Naveah Grunhuvd placed fourth in her weight cass and Peyton Liva took fifth place in hers to round out the Butte High girls’ place-winnings.
The tournament is named in honor of Butte Sports Hall of Fame member Tom LeProwse, who enjoyed a lengthy career as a successful coach at Bozeman High School in wrestling and other sports. LeProwse grew up in Butte.
