BOZEMAN — Playing in their final tune up before next week’s Class AA State tournament, Butte High’s boys and girls golfers placed third Friday at the Bozeman Invitational at the Bridger Creek Golf Course.
Sophomore Shealyn Hafer and junior Hailey Hoagland tied for third place to lead the Bulldogs to a 344 team score Friday. Butte High shot a 349 Thursday at the Riverside Country Club and placed third at 693.
Billings West won with a 654, which was 10 shots better than Billings Senior.
Hafer fired a 75 Friday — after an 81 Thursday — and beat her teammate for third place in a scorecard playoff. Hoagland, the tournament’s first-day leader with a 73, slipped to 83 on the final round.
Billings Senior’s Kortney McNeil fired a pair of 74s for a 148 to claim medalist honors. Coral Schultz of Helena Capital placed second at 150.
Hailey Ogolin shot a 90 Friday for a 179 total, while Megan Ingersoll shot a 96 Friday for a 106.
On the boys’ side, Butte High senior Mike Jankovich carded a 73 Friday to lead the Bulldogs to third place. Jankovich hit a 77 Friday and placed eighth at 150. He beat Bozeman’s Kyle Powell in a scorecard playoff.
Billings West Austin Berg won the tournament by seven shots over Parker Bradbury of Billings Skyview. Berg shot 69 both days for a 138.
David Starcevich, who shot 759 Friday at the Valley View Golf Course, shot a final-round 75 for a 154 as Butte High shot a 311 on the day and 620 on the tournament. Skyview won at 584, 11 shots better than west.
Ty Muprhy 156 and Tret Hoagland 160 also posted solid scores for the Bulldogs.
