GREAT FALLS — The Butte High girls are tied for the team lead after the first day of the Great Falls Invitational golf tournament.
Led by sophomore Kodie Hoagland’s 79, the Bulldogs shot a 340 to tie with Bozeman at the Meadow Lark Country Club.

Hoagland is tied for third place and just one shot out of the lead. Billings West’s Carrie Carpenter and Bozeman’s Cora Rosanova are tied for the lead at 78. Gigi Montague of Missoula Sentinel is fourth at 81, while Butte High junior Ella Prigge is tied with Jillian Wynne of Kalispell Flathead for fifth place at 82.
Butte High also got an 88 from junior Grace Luoma, a 91 from junior MacKenzie Finnegan and a 97 by junior Kennedy Lean.
Billing West sits in third at 342, while Billings Senior is a distant fourth at 358.
Bozeman leads the boys’ standings with an impressive 296 to open the season. Sentinel is second at 329, followed by Helena Capital at 336 and Butte High at 338.
Bozeman’s Justin Verge fired a 4-under-par 68 to take the first-day lead. J.R. Small of Bozeman is second at 73, followed by Bozeman’s Jordan Verge and Missoula Sentinel’s Joe Opitz at 75.
Butte High senior Kaven Noctor shot an 80. He is tied with freshman teammate Jack Prigge for seventh place. Senior Ty Insko shot an 84 for Butte High, while seniors Dawson Muffich and Hunter Salcido followed at 94 and 99.
The two-day tournament resumes at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Eagle Falls Golf Course.
