Friday was a day the Bulldogs would rather forget.
Billings Skyview’s girls’ soccer team scored in bunches at the Jeremy Bullock Complex, and the Falcons downed the Bulldogs 6-0 in an Eastern AA game.
“They did a great job moving the ball,” Butte High coach Kevin Petritz said. “They were a lot more dangerous. They were beating us to everything. They started out from the whistle.”
Aubrey and Ashley Bruan each scored a pair of goals to lead the Falcons to the win. Ciara Abester and Anna Beck added goals.
“That wasn’t our greatest performance, but we did some good things,” Petritz said. “At times we looked good. Defensively, this was a very poor performance, and it showed on the scoreboard.”
Butte High, at times, looked aggressive on offense and made a run at the net. Butte High’s best chance came when Skyview goalkeeper Summer Samsel came out to make a nice play to stop a shot by Ali Gonzales.
Petritz pointed to the play of Marty Ludwick on top as a bright spot for the Bulldogs, who also saw Riley Gonzales make a few aggressive runs.
Too often, though, the Bulldogs, who busted out new uniforms for the game, reverted to the past, and Petritz saw the game as a step backward after two strong performances.
“When you see something break down and a goal goes in, it’s hard to come back from that,” Petritz said. “We did a good job at times of rebounding and rebuilding, but today we didn’t play smart and we didn’t work hard. A lot of bad habits came back on us.”
The Bulldogs won’t have time to dwell on the loss, however. The team bus leaves at 8 a.m. Saturday for Butte High’s 1 p.m. game at Billings West.
“We’ll be better,” Petritz said.
