Bulldog girls swim to win at virtual Missoula meet

Butte High’s girls’ swimming team topped the field at the Missoula High School Swim Meet this weekend.

The Bulldogs swam their portion of the virtual meet at the Butte Family YMCA. Missoula did not get to compete in the meet because of the MHSA rule requiring 10 practices to participate.

Butte High posted 156 team points for the girls’ title. Helena High took second at 137. Helena Capital was third at 72, and East Helena finished third at 29.

Helena High won the boys’ crown with 152 points. Butte High finished in the No. 2 spot with 100 points. Helena Capital and East Helena followed at 32 and 15.

Senior Anna Trudnowski and junior Carley Trefts paced the Bulldog girls individually. Trudnowski won the 100-yard freestyle, while Trefts won the 100 breaststroke and finished third in the 500 freestyle.

Senior Hanna Morin-Ferguson swan to second in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Junior Kinzie Mason placed second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 50 free.

Freshman Lily Jaksha took home fifths int eh 200 free and 100 backstroke, sophomore Cora Roch posted a personal best while taking fifth in the 100 freestyle, and senior Tori Matteson placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

In the relays, Trudnowski, Morin-Ferguson, Mason and Trefts won the 200 freestyle relay and took second in the 200 medley relay.

Jaksha, Alex Kovnesky, Matteson and Rauch won the 400 freestyle relay.

Junior Thad Holdsworth led the Bulldog boys, swimming a personal best time to placed second in the 50 freestyle. He also swam the 500 freestyle for the first time and captured third.

Senior Colby Regan placed second in the 100 and 200 freestyle races, while sophomore Ladd Hutchinson placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Sophomore Maece Garza finished third in the 100 backstroke.

Frehsman Kershaw Mellott placed fourth in the 100 backstroke. He also dropped two and a half seconds to capture fifth in the 50 freestyle.

The Bulldog boys placed second in three different relays, the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.

Holdsworth, Hutchinson, Garza and Mellott swam the 200 medley. Hutchinson, Garza, Regan and Holdsworth competed in the 200 freestyle, and Mellott, Regan, Jaydon Lider and Daniel Harrington made up the 400 freestyle team.
