Bulldog girls swim to third at Butte High Invitational

The Butte High girls’ swimming team placed third at the Butte High Invitational Saturday at the Butte Family YMCA.

Saturday’s event saw 250 swimmers competing from nine schools from Butte, Helena, Missoula, and Kalispell. (Team scores; Individual results)

Missoula Hellagate took home the girls’ title with 477.5 points. Missoula Sentinel was second at 354, followed by Butte High at 257 and Kalispell Flathead and Helena Capital at 172.

The Butte High girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Anna Trudnowski, Kallie Hossack, Devin Amtmann and Catherine Russo took first place. The same four girls took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay.

Russo, a junior, won the 50 freestyle and 100 butter fly, while sophomore Anna Trudnowski swam a personal-best time in the 50 free to take sixth.  She also took fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Sophomore Kallie Hossack took seventh in both the 100 free and 100 breast.  She swam personal bests in both races.  Lexie Kautzman, a senior, took seventh in the 500 free, and Devin Amtmann took 10th in the 100 free.

Sentinel’s boys won the team title with 381 points. Hellgate was second at 359, and Helena High placed third at 277.

Butte High, which only has nine boys out for the team, placed eighth at 114.

“They all swam really well today, and we had some great places,” Butte High coach Lynn Sharder said of her boys.

Senior Zach Johnson placed second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke to lead the Bulldogs.

Junior Max Holdsworth placed third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 butter fly. Freshman Thad Holdsworth took 10th in the 200 individual medley, while Evan Zundel swan to 10th in the 100 backstroke.

Butte Highs boys’ 200 freestyle relay team of Johnson, Thad Holdsworth, Zundel and Max Holdsworth took third.

“Everyone swam really well today,” Shrader said. “We had a lot of personal best times from last week.  I am looking forward to our next meet.”

The Bulldogs swim in Missoula next Saturday. 1 comment
